Hot Chocolate Kit

A bag of our special hot chocolate blend – just add milk. Two kinds of homemade marshmallows, and ¼ pound each of chocolate chip drops and gingerbread stars. Just add a fireplace. $22

Pinwheel Bakery will be hosting a Rouge Salon pop-up Beauty Bar as part of this evening-long event. It starts at Elegance by Design at 5:30pm, where participants will receive an 'Elegance' shopping bag with a list of all participating Ferndale merchants on the bag. Each merchant will be offering a mini-gift of some kind (we'll be giving away mini-cupcakes), and participants can enroll in a raffle at each location, with drawings occurring at Rosie O'Grady's at 9:15pm. We'll be open until 9pm that night for this event and as part of Ferndale Third Thursdays. Up-to-date info on the event can be found at girlavanting.blogspot.com.

Vicious Delicious Art Show

Pinwheel Bakery will be celebrating its third year in business in downtown Ferndale with an art show. There's no line between food and art, or at least, there shouldn't be. Local artist Kill Taupe will be showing his colorful, fun food/monster/robot creations in a solo show entitled Vicous Delicious - Cannibal Cupcakes & Carnivorous Things at the bakery through mid-July beginning with an opening party on Friday, May 21, from 6-9pm. The bakery will also have custom hand-decorated sugar cookies designed by the artist for sale at the event. More information on the art of Kill Taupe can be found on his website.

Gelato is Back!

Just in time for summer! We'll be serving it up starting this week. Our top-quality, creamy-smooth gelato is made right here in Michigan by the Palazollo company of Saugatuck. They carry over 600 flavors, and we'll be changing them out throughout the summer. Our current flavors include tahitian vanilla, swiss chocolate couverture, brown sugar pecan, strawberry, and a custom-made Pinwheel Key Lime. We'll also have lemon-lime and peach sorbetto. Served in cornstarch-based biodegradable plastic cups.

Scones - The Morning Alternative

Donuts are great, we agree, but they can get a little boring after a while. Our scones are light and soft, not crumbly, moist, and not too sweet - a perfect breakfast treat. We make a variety of flavors, including favorites such as ginger toffee, apricot chocolate-chip, and cinnamon cherry, as well a savory cheddar-dill.

Buy Them Frozen, Bake at Home

Did you know that you can buy our scones unbaked, frozen, and oven-ready? They bake up easily, and you can have them oven-fresh right in your own home, perfect for those Sunday mornings when the bakery's closed :) Minimum order is 6 per box, either in a mixed variety of our choice or any single flavor that you choose (limited to what we're currently making). To ensure we have enough on-hand, orders must be made 48 hours in advance.

Love and Rockets

Remember that Valentine's day is on a Sunday this year. We're closed on Sundays, but we'll be open until 6pm on Saturday as usual. Stop in before the big day and pick up a treat for your sweet. We'll have our heart-shaped bumpy-cakes-for-two, cupcakes-for-two, raspberry and chocolate macarons, lots of decorated cookies, and more. We'll have plenty made and ready-to-go, but please call ahead at least 48 hours in advance for any large orders.

Window Display Detail

Ice Festival Saturday, Dec 12

Ice sculptures, strolling musicians, fire jugglers, live bands, reindeer, hayrides, and a five city trolley are all part of this annual event in downtown Ferndale. We'll be open later for the festival as well. Come in and warm up with a cup of our hot chocolate. We use real ground chocolate with cinnamon and fresh ground nutmeg, all topped with a homemade marshmallow or fresh whipped cream. More info on the festival can be found by clicking here.

Hello again from Pinwheel Bakery!
We have a cornucopia of desserts and treats for you this Thanksgiving season. They're a perfect way to make an impression and win over judgemental in-laws at upcoming family gatherings. And though we can't promise that our Maple Pumpkin Tart will resolve any political differences that arise at the dinner table this year, it will at least help get everyone to agree to put off arguing til the 4th of July picnic.

Tricks and Treats

We're scaring up all kinds of fun things at Pinwheel this Halloween - lots and lots of decorated ccokies, home-made marshmallow bones, scary cupcakes, and whoooo knows what else?

Zombies on the Nine October 15

This month's third Thursday event in downtown Ferndale is all about Halloween. There will be a Zombie Walk to benefit Gleaner's Food Bank, and lots of other activities and specials hosted by local businesses. More information can be found by clicking here. We'll be hosting a sugar skull craft where kids (and grownups) can decorate their own sugar skulls.

Pinwheel Bakery at VegFest 2009

Join Pinwheel Bakery at this year's VegFest at Ferndale High School on Sunday, April 26, from noon to 5pm. Presented by VegMichigan, this year's guest speaker is longtime vegan and former Detroit Piston John Salley. There will be door prize drawings throughout the day, and plenty of information on vegan and vegetarian foods. We'll be joining a number of other local vendors with lots of free samples and items for sale. Come and try our new vegan cookies and muffins, including our Apple Muffin, Sunshine Muffin, Cocoa Spice cookies, Oatmeal Raisin cookies, Peanut Butter cookies, and more.

French Pastries and the Ferndale DIY Festival

We're excited to be carrying French pastries by area pastry chef Cecilia Mercante. Trained at the Institut National de la Boulangerie Patisserie in Rouen, Normandie, France, Cecilia has built a loyal following from her booth Le Normandie in Detroit's Eastern Market, her work at The Lark in West Bloomfield, and the many classes she teaches throughout Southeast Michigan. The Ferndale DIY Street Fair is coming the weekend of September 20-21. It's a free, 2 day event that features artists, hand-made crafters, musicians, groups and organizations, local restaurants, michigan brewers who live and work with a DIY attitude.

The Happy Art of Carl Oxley III

Pinwheel Bakery will be showing new paintings by Hamtramck-based artist Carl Oxley III from mid-July through mid-August. The show kicks off with an opening reception on Thursday, July 17 from 5 - 9pm (as part of Ferndale's summer late-night Thursdays). Pinwheel Bakery at Birmingham Farmers Market

Happy Summer everyone! Pinwheel Bakery will have a booth at the Birmingham Farmer's Market from June until mid-October. We'll be selling an assortment of just-baked scones, muffins, and coffee cakes, as well as cookies, brownies, bars, loaves of banana bread, and other treats.

The market is open every Sunday from June until mid-October from 9am until 2pm, weather permitting, and offers a wide variety of locally produced fruits and vegetables, flowers, live entertainment, kid's crafts, foods, and lawn art. Mother's Day is Coming Sunday May 11

If you're looking for some ideas or inspiration, we can help. What's Mom's favorite cake? Let us know what she likes and how you'd like it decorated, and we'll do the rest. Other ideas? Our Mother-Heart 'Tattoo' cookies will melt her heart, sweetly. We're also putting together special 1 lb. gift boxes of a variety of shortbread cookies, as well as smaller bags of treats. Stop in and look around and you're sure to be inspired.

Please remember that we're a small bakery that puts a personal touch on everything we do, so the earlier you place your order the easier it will be to guarantee we can meet your needs. And of course feel free to call or stop in if you have any questions.

Our first birthday is coming up on May 17th and oh my gosh, what a year it's been. Thanks so much to all of our great customers. We feel as if our family circle has grown ten-fold.
